US brand Anthropologie opened its first UK store on London’s Regent Street today
The lifestyle brand (a sister store of Urban Outfitters) sells clothing, accessories, homewares and a few unexpected items such as literary classics, plants and artwork
In addition to their eclectic fashion ranges, Anthropologie are famous for their boutique-style / ‘homey’ merchandising displays. The London store successfully replicates this but adds a cultural twist by taking inspiration from English country homes and townhouses. In addition to chandeliers, a dyed tea-bag window installation, various objets d’art and near life-size animal models, there is an internal ‘hydroponic plant wall’ which spans the entire three floors.
Key Learning: Perfectly considered and executed, this is lifestyle retailing at its best. The ‘wonderland’ of surprises and delights is charming, inviting and engaging; and a fine example of how retailers can tempt consumers away from e-commerce and back into stores
